Malik Muhammad

Malik is a father, partner, friend, and comrade. He is facing both state and federal charges for allegedly throwing molotov cocktails during protests in Portland and is in jail awaiting trial.

“I’m originally from Chicago. I first experienced protesting really in elementary school…The year Trayvon Martin was murdered, though, is the first large scale protest I was at and it was beautiful. We all decided, through a Facebook post, to walk out of class to go to the cafeteria to hold our own assembly and talk about the murders of our people…I’m black, bi, I’ve got one beautiful mixed son. I’m a veteran and right now I’m fighting for my life here while Kyle Rittenhouse walks free. I’ve been down 8 months and my highest charge has a 30 year mandatory minimum and I’m just hoping and praying we can get those dropped off, that’s all my life. Love, Rage, Solidarity.”

More info is available at his support site here where you can sign up for a newsletter with updates from his support crew.

Malik would love to receive letters and correspondence from people — anything to keep his spirits up and give him hope!

Jacob Gaines

In September of 2021 Jacob Gaines plead guilty to assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon during a July 2020 protest in Downtown Portland .

From Jacob: “I ended up in Portland after traveling from Texas (my home state), I am a nomad, and I came to Portland to do music (death metal, black metal, etc.), it was in Portland that I found out what I believed were like-minded people (I’m against police and corporate-owned government), this led me to my eventual incarceration. I am always looking for people to write, any form of support I am very grateful for (letters, books, funds, pictures, art, good vibes, etc.).  I’m always interested in pen pals. Portland has called to me from the art, music, and people. I have fallen in love with the city. Thank y’all for being great.”

He asks that people include an email address associated with their corrlinks account so he can return an email instead of a letter since as an indigent prisoner this is a more affordable option.

Cyan Bass

In July of 2021 Cyan Bass was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to arson, criminal mischief, attempted assault using a dangerous weapon, possessing a destructive device and taking part in a riot involving the Justice Center in Portland in 2020.

From Cyan:

“I, like most of the world with some morality left in me, was enraged by the blatant murder of our fellow human George Floyd. These are not isolated events. Things will reach a boiling point again. And when they do, remember to stay dangerous. Be water. Spread fire. Dissent. But also be safe. Think things through. Think of family, friends and yourself. There’s more than one way to fuel a revolution. Find your role and fulfill it. We are strong together. Being locked up is not ideal, but at least I’m here for standing up for what I believe in. There’s honor in that.

I’m 22, & lived in Portland for over 10 years. I play guitar and I’m also a songwriter. I write a lot of folky/campfire stuff, but I also play lead guitar and love psychedelic blues/rock/folk/whatever. I’m a skateboarder, been doing it for about 10 years. I love to travel, see new things, meet new people, & have new experiences. I love to read, everything from fantasy to sci-fi to non-fiction to novels to autobiographies to texts on prehistoric anthropology and quantum physics. I’m a lifelong learner and gladly will hear someone’s point of view to gain insight and perspective.

I’d love to connect with some like-minded people for pen pals. Anyone who wants to write is welcome. I’m especially interested in writing other people/inmates who are/have been incarcerated for similar revolutionary activities.”
